I found this piece of music first through an old Jethro Tull album. He was playing the melody on the flute and being backed up by just his bass player. The only title named in the liner notes was “Bourre.” Researching the melody came up with Bach’s lute suites. Bach wrote six of them, each being voiced greatly for marimba, even though some of the dance movements can be quite difficult. The contrapuntal nature was quite challenging (besides the fact that when you hit a wrong note in a Bach piece you really “know” it. ) It still doesn’t change the fact the Bach wrote great music.
